  1. I think John Winthrop would be described as a wealthy English Puritan who led the first large amount of immigrants from England in 1630. He also served a governor for the 12 of the first 20 years of the Massachusetts bay colony’s existence. He was born into a wealthy merchant family. He was trained in the law, and he became lord of the manor at Groton in Suffolk. He wasn’t actually involved in the founding in the Mass bay colony but he was elected governor of the Mass bay colony in October 1629. He led a group of colonists to the New World in April 1630. Between 1629 and 1649 he served 12 terms of governor. His death was in 1649 which was 20 after he got involved with the colony in 1629.

  2. William Sayle Voki: http://www.voki.com/pickup.php?scid=5492411&height=267&width=200

William Sayle (just to give you some background information) founded Bermuda, the Bahamas, and South Carolina. The Bahama settlement was the first English settlement there, so he might be proud of that. William Sayle was a Puritan of the Protestant Church in England. Now for the describing part. I already did “proud”. I’m going to say “proud” again, as he was eighty when he founded South Carolina, and his health wasn’t too good, so I think that he might be proud of what he did. “Lucky”, because he got to found three places. Maybe “hopeful”, because he might have been hoping to found another place. I also think “amazing” because William Sayle might have thought of himself as amazing to be able to found three places. That pretty much sums it up, amazing, hopeful, lucky, proud, and, if you want three more, successful, commanding (he was a governor, you know), and last but not least, blessed to have the strength (at least for most of the time) and courage to be able to found those places.

  3. Anne Hutchinson, didn’t found or govern a colony, but she was still a big figure in U.S. History. Anne was a Puritan in the Boston, Massachusetts area. Anne would describe herself as many things, and not have been afraid to. Anne would say she was outspoken. She criticized the church in Boston, and some of the ministers. Also, She could say she was courageous. In that time, if you criticized the government or church, you could be killed, so it took some courage to speak freely about her opinions. Anne was a very strong woman as well. I don’t mean lifting things, strong, I mean her personality and her words. Anne had very strong religious beliefs, her words touched many people. Also, she didn’t change her sayings through being banished from the colony. Additionally, after Anne’s husband died, she had to take care of a huge family. Stubborn, although in a good way, Anne was stubborn. Anne never changed her ways, never faltered her opinion, even though, she faced some hard times, result of what she said. Anne knew the consequences, but she chose not to care. Outspoken, courageous, strong, and stubborn, are everything Anne was.

  4. William Bradford Voki = http://www.voki.com/pickup.php?scid=5505102&height=267&width=200

Hello! My name is William Bradford, you may have heard of me because I was the one who founded Massachusetts and was their first governor. I was born in 1590 in Yorkshire and grew up farming in the farming community of Austerfield, England. As a young boy, both of my parents died so I went to different relative’s houses but I never stayed anywhere for a long while. At the Age of 12, I moved to Scrooby and by the age of 17 I was a separatist which was a religion that was totally against the Church of England. Many separatists were put in prison by the king. Later, I got married to a women named Dorothy and when we moved to the New World, we had to leave our son behind in England where we knew he would be safe. By the time we got to the New World, many people were sick and a couple of sad souls had not made it. I became the first governor and was put in charge of almost the whole community. We had a hard first winter but some of us made it through with the help of the native people. We learned a lot in the first few years and soon we had a pretty established community in the making. After that, many other colonies and towns were formed in the area.

I Alexander Spotswood am a governor patriot, soldier, statesman, administrator, builder and industrialist. I came to Virginia at 34 in 1710, Also I am a decedent of a settler of Virginia named John Barker. I was appointed governor in 1728 and I wanted to have good amounts of land for all settlers and an effective way to divide it. I made great progress on discovering the west and had a lot of Tabaco grown and gathered. As an explorer I led an expedition across the Blue Ridge and chose Germanna as another place to settle in because of the frontier. Soon German settlers came into the area that I was in. Though they did not settle there I chose to leave to escape any wars.

Hello, I am Peter Stuyvesant. I’m not the ordinary man but I survive with not much but a colony to run. So I was governor of the New Netherlands colony but was forced to surrender it to the British. But that is not all. I was also the director of the Dutch. I bet you a little birdy told you that the Dutch are hard to handle… Well that is true. They want to make up every single rule on their own, well they can’t because I was the director not them! I’m sorry I get worked up about that stuff almost all the time. Did you know that I was born in 1592 and not you? Well I bet you people were born in better times then I. Any who my first ever career was at the Dutch West India Company. I had so much fun and met so many people. After the New Netherland colony being taken out of my hands I moved onto different colonies. Like the Curaao, Aruba, and Bonaire. But one horrible day my leg got sick and the doctor had to cut it off and give me a wooden leg. I was in so much pain from falling because I wasn’t stable on the wooden lag and because my leg was just chopped off. I know it sounds disgusting and it was, but I don’t like talking about it. And the worse part about it was that it was my right leg… my good leg. But enough with the bad news. One good thing that happened was that I won land near Connecticut. I was so proud that I forgot that I had a wooden leg. Well after my colony making, colony governing, and colony directing I devoted the rest of life to farming. So I hope you like enough to be my friend.

Hi I am William Penn. I founded Pennsylvania in 1677 and that is where the state got its name. Pennsylvania means Penn’s woods. When we arrived there it had many trees so that is how the name came to be. I am a Quaker and I came here on a ship with other Quakers. I was not born as a Quaker but I became one at the age of twenty two. I also went to school as a kid and that is where I learned about being a Quaker and I loved it. I got kicked out of the Church of England and I am now very happy with who I am.

Hello, I am Benjamin Franklin. I was born to a soap and candle maker in Boston on January 17 1706. I was my parents tenth son. If a few of my siblings hadn’t died I would have 16 brothers and sisters! After going to school, I was apprenticed to my older brother, who owned a printing shop. At the age of 17 I ran away to Pennsylvania because my brother beat me. In Pennsylvania, I started a printing shop of my own. Soon I became rich by publishing “Poor Richard’s Almanac” and “The Pennsylvania Gazette”. Many know me as an inventor, scientist, politician, and a writer. Now I am most famous for my experiments with electricity and for inventing the lighting rod. I then became the governor of Pennsylvania.

  9. I think I would describe Cecilius Calvert as a very wealthy man. He was the second Lord Baltimore for 42 years. I thought that was a very long time. He was a Catholic, so he continued the legacy of his father by promoting religious tolerance in Maryland, even though Maryland was officially Catholic. Cecilius Calvert’s son, Charles Calvert, was third Lord Baltimore and had that title for 15 years. Cecilius I think was the least successful of the three lords, because his time as Lord Baltimore was only for three years. That is how I would describe Cecilius Calvert.

  10. I think that John Smith is a very brave person. I think that John Smith is brave because on in September, 1609, he was injured in a gunpowder explosion, and he wasn’t even scared. Well, he might have been a little scared, but he didn’t think that he was going to die. He was also brave because he was a soldier. Considering how soldiers need to fight with guns, and much more, I would be terrified. But John Smith wasn’t scared at all. Another reason why John Smith is brave is because when John was returning to Jamestown, Virginia, he caught a Stingray that stung him, which almost made him die. But he did die at one point. I’m sure that John was terrified when he found out that he was going to die.

I am John Mason, English Army Major. I was born in 1600. In 1632 I immigrated to America and settled in Dorchetser, Massachusetts. I was a governor there and I was elected freeman in 1634. In 1636, the Manisseans killed John Oldham who was a trade representative for the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The Manisseans were tributaries to the Pequot Nation. They sent me to Block Island to kill the Manisseans. We burnt the Manisseans wigwams which concluded to the Pequot War. After the Pequot War, the Mystic Massacre began, it eventually destroyed the Pequot tribe. I sadly died there in 1672.

  12. Roger Williams founded Rhode Island and he was born around 1603. He graduated Cambridge University in England in 1627. Roger Williams was a man who believed in religious freedom. He believed that people could choose what religion they wanted to follow. Roger Williams had great relations with the Native Americans and they treated him well too. He befriended their leaders and he even made a book about the Native American language. The book was published in 1643 in London.

Sir John Yeamans, was the first and only governor of Clarendon and a governor of South Carolina. Sir John Yeamans was born in England in around 1605. After living there for about fifty years, he left and went to live in Barbados. When he lived in Barbados he became a planter. While Sir John Yeamans was living in Barbados, some farmers in Virginia wanted to make a new colony in Carolina. It had already been named Carolina by England. Then the farmers begged the lord proprietors to make a colony that was a separate character of government. Most of the deal was agreed to, but Sir John Yeamans was picked to be their governor. A new colony was established named Clarendon. Clarendon went on to be a pretty good investment. On the other hand, he founded a colony on the south bank of Cape Fear River that was a complete failure. Even though that colony turned out to be complete failure, at one time the colonies were prospering. Immigrants became coming more and more, and a plantation there was said to have over 800 people. After a while Sir John Yeamas returned to Barbados. Then he went back to Carolina which had split into South Carolina and North Carolina. When he came back the current governor William Sayles had died and a new governor had taken his place, Joseph West. Only after this governor wasn’t governor anymore would Sir John Yeamans become governor of South Carolina. In 1674 he was removed from office and returned to Barbados where he eventually died.

  14. Hi I’m George Calvert and right now I am going to tell you about myself. I was born in Yorkshire England in 1580. Later I served in the English Parliament and was given the Irish title Baron Baltimore for my excellent service. I was given a grant to found the colony Newfoundland but that failed. But later I was given another grant to found the colony of Maryland. Charles I gave this grant to me. But I couldn’t finish this mission because I died.

  15. Hey there, my name is Edward Teach. I was born in 1680. Some find it hard to believe that a man who simply worked for a British privateer would later become one of the best pirates on the Carolina Coast. It all started during the Spanish Succession. The Queen of Brittan permitted us to plunder enemy Spanish and French ships and keep the goods we stole. I was a very good sailor and I was brave and fearless. But eventually, the war came to an end and there was more peace between Spain and Brittan. So I got my own ship and hired a crew. From then on, I was known as Blackbeard. Now, some people think that pirates steal lots of treasure. But most ships that I stole from weren’t full of treasures. I usually received cargo such as, grain, molasses and rum. Once, when I saw a wealthy ship full of wealthy passengers I held the people (including the children) that were on board the ship hostage. I told their town, Charleston North Carolina that if they didn’t give a chest of medicine and remedies, I would hang these people and sure enough, I was granted the chest of medicines. I then decided that North Carolina would make a good home base so that is would it became. And at the time, North Carolina belonged to the British. I sold many of the goods that I had stolen to neighbors and that made then tolerate my presence. Unfortunately for me, Alexander Spotswood found out about me and my crew. He then sent two ships, commanded by Lieutenant Robert Maynard. My crew and I destroyed one of the ships, but after much battling I lost. And in that battle I died. It happened when I came up directly to Maynard and he shot me. It was over, I had lost. But it was a close fight. I hadn’t told anyone where my treasure was hidden so that secret died with me and nobody has discovered the treasure since.
